KAT - Kids and Authors Together
Inspiring kids to love reading and writing.
Professional and multi-published award-winning authors, Karen King and Ann Evans are passionate about books, reading and writing, and very importantly, inspiring children to love books, love reading, and enjoy writing creatively.
Whether that's fiction or non-fiction.
About four years ago they teamed up to create KAT, Kids and Authors Together. The fact that it also stands for Karen and Ann Together is just the icing on the cake.
As regular visitors to schools all around the country, their KAT school visits, enable schools to hire two authors for virtually the price of one.
The advertising phrase BOGOF springs to mind!
Not only is this a cost effective way of bringing authors into school, but it also means that the whole school can benefit from an author visit.
Incidentally both Karen and Ann are Patrons of Reading, so love books! They are also both writing tutors for adults as well as youngsters.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON A KAT VISIT TO YOUR SCHOOL
Karen and Ann usually begin their day at the school with an assembly for the whole school. Here the children get to meet the authors and learn, through the duo's entertaining and lively assembly, how they both started as writers and what sort of books they write.
After assembly, Karen works with KS1 while Ann works with KS2, doing talks, workshops and getting the kids inspired to write, and read more!
On average they usually each run 4 or 5 sessions of about 40 mins/1 hour duration. Yes! Karen and Ann work very hard!!
The results and feedback show that it's all worth it. Teachers are often amazed at the brilliant work the children produce in the sessions, and having an author visit is something that stays with the child for a long time afterwards.
Plus the school gets a free signed book from each author for their library.
